Parents tend to think that the child should be fed before the entire family sits for a meal so that they can peacefully eat their meals. However, it is advisable to make the child sit at the dining table and feed the child along with the entire family.
The child can be fed while the family is themselves enjoying their meals. Feed the child initially and encourage the child to finish the last bits of the meal by himself. It will be a bit messy but this habit of making the child eat independently will help immensely in the long run.
The child will also enjoy eating with the entire family and when the child sees that everyone around him is eating their meal, the child will be naturally encouraged to finish his meal too.
This practice also helps in family bonding. This is the best practice if you want to feed your child without resorting to screen distractions such as showing videos on mobile phones or televisions while feeding the child. At least one meal of the day shall be with the child sitting at the dining table with the rest of the family.
If possible try to sit around in a traditional Indian Baithak while eating food i.e. lay a mat on the ground and eat food while sitting on the mat. Sit in a position called as Sukhasan, which is simple cross legged Indian Traditional sitting position. The advantages of sitting in this position while eating is that it helps in digestion of the food, improves blood circulation and improves your posture.
